The Approaching the Medieval reading group was set up in 2015 by four PhD students in the Modern and Medieval Languages department at the University of Cambridge – two working on French texts, and two working on Slavonic texts – to set up a conversation between students and researchers of different medieval languages and cultures.

We meet every fortnight during Cambridge University term, and are open to anyone with an interest in ways of approaching medieval studies.  We discuss a text which is circulated in advance, and produce summaries for anyone who would like to just turn up on the day.

In the 2015-2016 academic year, we hosted a visiting postgraduate or postdoctoral interlocutor once a term, who discussed their work with us.
